There are many ways to express what you feel. Drawing is one way of conveying what one feels. I have been drawing since i was a kid. I love the art and how people can show their emotions and express themselves through something other than words.

             Drawing can be defined as the act of making a design or image, using line or tone on any subtle surface. Drawings can be made for artistic or technical purposes such as the work of Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo combined his drawings with text normally devoted to the make up of the illustration. (Alvey, R. “The Anatomical Drawings of Leonardo da Vinci”). Early drawings such as drawings and paintings made during the upper Paleolithic Period are now seen as, just prehistoric cave drawings. However the drawings made in those caves have a deeper meaning to them. Paintings such as the ones in the Altamira cave were considered to be hoaxes by academics. (“Cave painting” www.wikipedia.org). The art that the people of that time have changed man forever. The art created by the homosapians of this period show their perspective and that they had a basic understanding of their surroundings. This trait may have been passed down allowing us to be as expressive as we are now. Some say the drawings were made to serve as a communication device and another interpretation of the cave paintings were that they served a more artistic objective. Whether it be for communication or an artistic purpose, what is the importance of drawing today and how is it used?
             Drawing is a wonderful way for people to express themselves. Drawing allows people to express themselves where words can not. (Phillips, Tom Artists Emerging, Sustaining Expression Through Drawing: preface). Even those who do not draw can express themselves by getting such things as tattoos. Tattoos may express how a person feels at a present moment, the love of someone or a lost one and many other feelings the person may want to remember or want to let go of. Tattoos have become ever more popular in recent years especially in North America, Japan and Europe. (“Tattoo” www.wikipedia.org) The art of tattooing involve needles, ink and of course skin. Another reason why drawing is good for self-expression is because you do not have to hear or speak to draw. Expressing yourself through drawing goes straight from your imagination to your pencil to whatever surface you are drawing on. Drawing offers also offers other aspects. Drawing can be used to cope with boredom and pass time or just for plain fun. Once one is done with a drawing that they like they will be left with a feeling of accomplishment.
             Drawing can trigger creativity and gives people something to do. It allows people to let their emotions out.
